At the heart of its story are the five mythological brothers: King Boreas, and his 4 wind brothers, Titan (North Wind), Notos (South Wind), Euros (East Wind), and Zephyrus (West Wind). Each represents a different force of nature, and together they form the Carnival’s royal court.

Zephyrus, the Prince of the West Wind, is known for his warm, adventurous, cowboy‑spirited energy. Those who serve as Zephyrus — and the West Wind organization that supports him — act as ambassadors for the Winter Carnival. They travel throughout Minnesota and beyond, promoting the festival, sharing its traditions, and spreading the joy and magic of winter. Their signature look often includes Western‑inspired regalia, a nod to the West Wind’s legendary persona.

The Winter Carnival Royal Family makes hundreds of appearances each year, visiting schools, senior communities, charity events, parades, and celebrations of every size. Their mission is simple but powerful:
to bring joy, connection, and a sense of belonging to everyone they meet.
